Can you accept your anxiety?
At present life is a wee bit higgledy-piggledy.
My stress levels are higher than normal and I am currently staying somewhere where I planned to end my life many years ago.
It is no surprise then that memories of the chronic anxiety I suffered with have now returned.
Thankfully I now have boundaries and tools to deal with any anxious thoughts and feelings however I did look at information online.
Having looked at various sites I found myself looking at local therapists and what they offered. Not necessarily for me but for other family members with a lot on their plate just now.
Reading each therapists blurb brought up something from way back.
Years ago when I was training to be a counsellor another member if our group declared that she had accepted her anxiety and that had made everything much easier.
At the time I was still struggling with an anxiety disorder and decided to give this method a try.
To this day I don't think I have ever 'accepted' the anxiety I was tormented with.
Maybe I am wrong to have fought so hard?
Maybe acceptance means saying 'this is anxiety' in which case I did accept it but if it means saying this is me and my lot then, no, I definitely did not accept it!
I am interested in hearing what others think about this method or is it used by people with no understanding of anxiety?
If it truly works and gives people back their lives then I am not against it, however if it is a way of telling people to live with it and not strive for a better quality of life then it gets a big fat raspberry from me
